Portraits of Kurt Klaus

Mr Klaus is a remarkable man, having spent 50 years at IWC. I asked him over dinner if he had ever considered leaving IWC, his response was an unequivocal "Never!" Not even during the most bleak days of the quartz crisis did he think of leaving Schaffhausen. Mr Klaus is clearly a man who is satisfied with what he has accomplished and where he is.

Mr Klaus spoke fondly of the times he spent at Lange in the early 1990s, together with the late Gunther Blumlein whom he deeply respects. One of the most interesting tidbits Mr Klaus revealed was that Mr Blumlein and himself were responsible for the design of the iconic Lange 1. He said the two of them spent several hours, three or four hours, on a computer together, trying out various positions for the various indicators on the Lange 1 dial.

Mr Klaus cheerfully autographed many a catalogue that evening for his fans.
