Deployant on a CS
Jun 30 2008,02:40 AM Most collectors I've met are either prefer a tang buckle or deployant and wear all their watches the same way. I've always thought some watches suit a tang buckle better than others particularly simple versions like the CS. For complications like the the remontoir, a deployant is best. Lately I've considered switching my deployant to my CS. What do you think? Is it 100% personal taste? Do you think it changes the feel of the watch? Which do you prefer? |

Think its really personal and...
Jun 30 2008,02:52 AM down to usage of the watch. If a watch is to be a daily wearer, deployant just seems that much more practical. Put it on and go... For me, daily rotation pieces are outfitted with deployants while special OR rarely used pieces are with tang. Just my own two cents... |

as a "general rule"....
Jun 30 2008,03:19 AM
I think the "general rule" is tang for dress watches and deployant for "sportswaches" . Of course thats a generalization. I think for smaller lighter waches tangs look more elegant but also more comfortable since sometimes tangs can sometimes bring the "weight" out of balance...I know it sounds little unclear... but it has something to do with how the balance "feels". Generally I think that even though I own several watches with deployants I find tangs more comfortable since the deployants seem to leave a mark on my arm as opposed to the tangs. I guess you should just experiment with it. No harm in that. I just think that the CS is such a "simple" clean watch that the tang seems more appropriate. thats my opinion of course. If you try it out I hope you will take some pics and share them with us.
kind regards COD |

I tend to use deployants on all my watches...
Jun 30 2008,10:07 AM ... maybe not always the manufacturers clasp, but it just saves the strap from all the bending and creasing. Of course, the convenience is nice, too. |

Agreed...
Jun 30 2008,19:12 PM
About a year ago I began buying all watches with deployants. So much easier to use, safe and secure and gets me 3x the wear on a $300 strap. Of course, I always try and pick up a deployant pre owned BB The Goal is Soul |

To maintain my high-quality straps...

...I also switch to more sweat-resistant, less expensive straps in the summer. But that's another discussion. |

It's personal taste
Jul 03 2008,10:42 AM
Some like the feel and comfort of a deployant buckle while some prefer the feel and comfort of a tang buckle. It's like apples and oranges. My preference is still for tang buckle, but the spring action deployant on my RM11 is extremely comfortable. Some deployants I find not comfortable on the wrist like the AP folding deployant but I find all tangs to be comfortable assuming the strap length is correct. Cheers, |

I don't think it'll be a mainstay IMO
Jul 04 2008,10:47 AM
because many of the brands already have their own designed deployants and they aren't going to throw their R&D, tooling costs, etc. away in the garbage, so I don't see these brands picking up this spring loaded buckle deployant and using it in as their deployants. I'm not sure how many brands currently use this spring loaded buckle, and the 2 who I know use it are MB&F and RM. Anyone know which other brands use it? Seems like the small brands are using it cause they don't want to design their own buckle? Must be cheaper to license the deployant than design their own branded deployant? Cheers, |

I like the RM springing deployant...

I think it's a great feel. I agree, probably won't become a mainstay; but like many of the advances of RM, not necessarily emulated... BB The Goal is Soul |

My Choice
Jul 04 2008,09:09 AM I can only wear a watch with a Deployant because I hate to wreck the strap & I like the ease of putting it on. I only had to see one watch bounce off of a tile floor to convince me tangs have MANY negatives. I wear the NEW Adjustable Deployant on my Ruthenium Tourbillon and it is the ultimate. |

One thing about deployants, they aren't as secure as you may think
Jul 07 2008,21:45 PM
Because sometimes the hole that the deployant pin uses slowly gets larger and larger (all dependent on which hole u use on the strap in relation to your wrist curvature especially if u strap ur watch on tight ) because I've had experiences where the deployant pin just falls out of the strap hole, and luckily I've been able to catch the watch each time before it fell from my wrist. If the hole u're using is near the beginning curvature on the bottom side of your wrist, that hole the deployant pin uses will slowly get worn out and eventually grow bigger. That's the experience I've had with deployants. - Anthony This message has been edited by AnthonyTsai on 2008-07-07 21:46:58 |

Jul 08 2008,08:05 AM UN uses that irritating mushroom pin on their clasps. Nightmare to change but probably safer?? |
