I reckon it has to be the Resonance

For your first FPJ it has to be the Resonance. I am not sure about the price from used market but I think you probably can get one with some top up on your budget. Why I suggest Resonance is simply because it is only FPJ that you get this "complication". The duality from Philippe Dufour is not the same even it has two b wheels and may look similar. The concepts are different - FPH relies on resonance while Dufour uses deviation averaging through mechanical means. Regardless, I personally think the Resonance is something worth having if it is to be your first and (may or may not) be your only FPJ. The Dufour would be really really nice but you can't get it now because it is not longer available. The others from OCTA range could be a consideration but they are not uniquely Journe as the Res. Just my 2cents worth of opinion.

Chronometre Souverain given the budget.

Your choices are probably limited to the CS or the Octa RDM if $25k USD is the max you can spend.  Given you already have the Lange 1, the CS might be a noice choice since it has a very simple, centered dial whereas the RDM is set off to the right, similar to the offset dial of the Lange 1.  Great watch, durable for casual or dress wear.  If you had some leeway on budget, then the Resonance is what I would consider the quintessential Journe and would consider holding out for that, but even a pre-owned Resonance will be close to double your budget I think.

You're exactly right, BAT...

We have to admit that choosing between the RDM and the CS in that price range is not a bad situation. Both are fabulous watches. I just bought a preowned RDM with the yellow dial and it's in perfect condition. I'd highly recommend this watch since it's so iconic and may become harder to obtain than the CS.

Yes; CS is the logical and wonderful choice!

Also, the Resonance, for some, is not a daily wear piece given the difficulty in winding (although other WIS will disagree with me).  It is one of the most beautiful watches ever, and a fab' movement!  Just make sure that (1) you are willing to dbl your budget to $50k and (2) that you are comfortable winding regularly or would be comfortable using it on occasion (which I believe would be most happy occasions smile ).

Octa Lune
Jun 28 2008,17:15 PM

I would try and find the Octa Lune with YG dial and moonphase. You have already figured out that FPJ is the perfect complement to a Lange. There are some great threads that discuss this. Next is dial color. YG is extremely unique to all other brands and has a richness and vintage feel that will contrast nicely with your current black dial. Third, would be the addition of a moonphase complication. The Lange 1 moonphase is a beautiful piece but unlikely you will every add since you have a Lange 1 already. With the FPJ moonphase it's very elegant. the Gold stars against the blue background are beautiful. No doubt if you like the Lange 1 then you will be smitten by the subdial on an FPJ.

Of course I can't disagree with others recommendations with a CS or Resonance. One will hit your budget the other will make you stretch. Good luck and let us know what you decide!!!!

I agree

If its you're first and only Journe, the Octa Lune (or even the Octa Reserve de Marche) is the way to go.

The CS is a great watch -- I have one and I love it -- but I view the Octa Lune as the definitive Journe piece, the one that has the most of that Journe essence (outside of, perhaps, the original Tourbillion). I mean, is a Journe a Journe without an eccentric main dial? smile As great as the CS is, and its wonderful detailing, no Journe gives me as much pleasure to simply look at as the Octa Lune.

You could also consider red-on-red, it works very well with this watch.

Good luck

CS, for your budget
Jun 28 2008,22:57 PM

Is the most interesting horological choice, in the FPJ watches...

Except if you want to spend more, and this would be the Resonnance...

Best, and keep us up dated!
