I know. It is surprising that we haven't seen a new
Jul 20 2008,05:10 AM

of the SUW

or the new Grande Seconde PR

I've actually been saving hard  for one of the new JDs but I wonder if some are holding out to see what the new movement will be like.  Unfortunately very few of the new pieces are here in the US.  Perhaps there is a big push to get the new watches to China for the big Olympics crowd?

Cheers, Mike

Even here in Switzerland...
Jul 20 2008,05:18 AM

only a handful of the '08 pieces have made their way to the boutiques and AD's. I haven't seen the SUW or any other ceramics here.

While I am looking forward to the new movement, I certainly wouldn't "hold out" purchasing any J*D's because of it. The movement i honestly the last thing I think about when buying/considering a J*D. It's never been about movements for me...

Not exactly,
Jul 20 2008,05:12 AM

But I made a move on this one:

I've been eyeing it for a while, but to be honest it's quite an investment (for me). The MSRP is significantly higher than the GS variants, but it's the one I've always wanted. No substitutes biggrin

It's "locked down" for me, but I'm not sure exactly when I'll pick it up as my Piece Unique project is more important. And with a wedding coming-up... well who knows maybe someone will be nice enough and offer me a J*D smile LOL

Perhaps your lucky bride to be will surprise you with a J*D wedding gift :-)

That PHM Paillonnee uses the most number of gold paillons in all the designs so far.

Great pick!

I can't wait to see the final design of your GS piece unique.

Cheers, Mike

That would be nice :)

But I never ask for anything. hehe...

The reason I loved this PHM variant is precisely because there are only gold paillons! But that is also reflected in the price sad

I could post a photoshop pic of the project, but that would take the fun out of it, now wouldn't it?

instead, I'll post a little clue/source of inspiration:

Okay I'll wait...

I know its going to be good smile

Its funny how true the old adage  "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is.

I know many people who do not like the PHM line at all.  I was a late "convert" myself.  In fact I think MarkV was the only initial big fan of this model who argued that the extra dial space was perfect to show off the dial qualities of Jaquet Droz.

I bet the PHM will still be there for you when you decide to pounce on it.

Best, Mike

Actually,

Those are what they refer to as "Turkish" numerals. Many watchmakers created pieces specially for the Ottoman Empire, using these Turkish numerals which are actually a blend of Roman and Arabic (or Eastern Arabic) numerals.

Ah, yes: thank you!...
Jul 23 2008,03:15 AM

..although it now seems that the clue might have been in the case and not the dial, perhaps?

Cheers,

pplater.

nice!
Jul 24 2008,00:38 AM

That's a beautiful piece to look forward to. Unlike a lot of the other paillonee dials, this one is lacking the red accents in the pattern. Gives the dial a somewhat "calmer" look - really nice !

Mark

Yes, it is quiet and one wonders why.
Jul 20 2008,06:14 AM

We are left to speculate.

As far as I know,  there has been a very slow trickle of J*Ds to my nearest AD.  A 2008 PHM arrived around the beginning of June and yesterday I saw a 2007 burl wood dial in the display case (a recent arrival).  I know someone who is awaiting delivery of a SUW that was ordered at Basel, but it has not yet appeared.

While waiting for the new J*Ds to appear I am keeping myself occupied by purchasing a few straps for other watches I own.  But, it's not the same as hunting for a J*D.

Well, at least one of us remains in the hunt.... congratulations, Amr.

Our saviour
Jul 22 2008,10:58 AM

Jokoh,

What would we do without you? Our die-hard J*D fanatic (word used in the best possible taste) with special connections to dealers smile

Maybe we should ask you to be MikeTing's PuristS' Eyes in Asia. Since Mike moved to USA, we need regional secret squirrels. J*D is so-o-o popular in Asia.

J*D don't seem to produce enough for demand but that is the same affliction for all high horology brands.

Regards,

MTF
