Green Mil Gauss Photo Essay and 1st thoughts
Jul 18 2008,07:02 AM

This Green Mil Gauss is a surprising watch.

I remember my thoughts when I saw it first in pics, last year during the Basel Fair...

I found it strange, a bit freakie with all these colors, and not that appealing...

Till my AD gave me a call to aske me to pay him a visit, with a surprise ....

It was the surprise.

Not that I find it very appealing nor beautiful.

But the Mil Gauss has something, especially in this version...

This is in fact a funny watch, which makes it interesting...

you have a bit the feeling to wear a traffic light on the wrist, with all these colors, well, at the first contact...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Than you begin to change a bit your mind, and to have a look at the case, which proportions are very well balanced.

The Bracelet is obviously very well finished, even if I'm not a big fan of the mix Polish/ brushed links...

Then, you begin to love it, as it is, a funny, weird watch, due to this blend of colors, and to this special lightening second hand...

As for the older models ( 6541 and 1019, in fact, a blend of these 2 references ...), you have different indexes at 3 / 6 / and 9, a matt dial, and you begin to appreciate this presentation...and to discover its charm.

Even this very ...green sapphire has some appeal, finally.

And here, doesn'it it look spectacular?

Let's not forget that the Mil Gauss is noe of the most efficent watch in temr of amagnetism, which may be useful, more than I / we thought...

You should go to your AD, and test the magnetism of your watches, you will be surprised...

Well, I changed my mind on this watch, and I decided to go on it, not because of its rarity, as only God knows what rolex will do with it, and we should think that they will do the same than they did with the Kermit sub...

But because this is a so strange and special watch that I began to fall in love with...

Hope you will enjoy...

Best.
Nicolas

Hi Damian
Jul 18 2008,08:40 AM

As for the Glass, I don't know how they did to make it green.

All I know, as many others here, is that rolex had big trouble with the 1st pieces about this green glass.

I didn't write " Hope " but "think"...that they will do the same than they did with the Kermit..

I meant that at the beginning, let's say the 1st year, a lot of people thought that the Kermit will be available onyl one year, or will stay a rare bird...

We know now that it's not the case...And it may be the same with the Green Mil Gauss...

Best, my friend.

Nicolas

Sensational pictures!! It is a one-of-a-kind Rolex. The crystal is fairly subtle actually. It is most beautiful in low light/firelight. Enjoy!

Really love the word you wrote....traffic lights is definitely the best way to describe this Mil Bauss character.

Speaking right out....everytime I see this watch, I just really HATE it....

While driving my car and seeing a Traffic Light, I was observing my Green Mil Gauss, and I found something like un " air de famillle" ..LOL

A watch to be seen  in the flesh, my friend...

On the press file pic, you're a bit amazed, you don't know what to think, but in real, the watch is much better...

Your time will certainly come, my friend...

Best.

I have to admit the colour combination is a bit tacky and the green crystal is gimmicky but somehow the entire package works. Congrats Nicolas!

The interesting point with this watch is that it may be a perfect illustration of the following rule:

" do never judge a watch untill you see it in the flesh"...

And this rule, I personnaly tested it I don't remember how many times...LOL

Best.

Enjoy this beauty Nicolas. This has to be one of those watches that only grows on you in time as it has done for me.It is one of the most unique Rolexes of recent times and I think is destined to be a classic.

Congrats on a great pick up.

Cheers

Congrats, Nicolas! As far as I'm concerned, the Milgauss is the iconic Rolex . . .
Jul 20 2008,17:13 PM

. . . and I'm glad they brought it back after a long hiatus. I've seen the nominal black dial version . . . the dealer let me know that she was doing me a big favor just by pulling it out of the safe, so I didn't ask to try it on. It's always best to compare them in the metal, but at this point I seem to prefer the standard version without the minute Arabics . . . there's enough going on with the eye-catching lightning bolt seconds hand that the extra information on the dial (along with the green crystal) seems to 'overload' my senses. Is the tension of the seemingly unrelated effects what you were alluding to in your reference to traffic lights? Cordially, Art

Milgaus Are, for me, less iconic than Subs or GMT, even if I would love ot get a 1019...for its sober aspect, its simplicity...

We are far from this simplicity wit this Green Milgaus, but this is an Hommage watch, an Anniversary version of the Vintage Milgaus, an extrapolated piece, not to say a Free Style interpretation.

That's a bit what I like it, as a delirium form Rolex which is not very current!

Aaah, I have to go, the Traffic light is ..Green! LOL

Best, my friend.

I spent a lot of time deiciding which one I prefer
Jul 20 2008,23:29 PM

And I even considered the white dial, as shown by Philips...

But at the end, the Green Milgauss was the winner, just because it's funnier than the 2 others...

So funny and weird that I :love it...LOL

Best.

Great review and wonderful pictures.  I just picked mine up yesterday and spent the evening just staring at it!

When I showed it to my wife, she said "now that's different, I  like it"  Normally she says all my watches look the same, LOL!

Funny thing is, this is the most interest my wife has had in any of my watches, maybe I should not have told it was so hard to get!=)  I am also worried as my son's favorite color is green!  Out of curiosity, what is your Serial?  Mine is M 92X,XXX so we are getting close to the end of the M serials.

GREEN!!
Jul 24 2008,11:38 AM

Congratulations Nicolas!!

I have the 3 new milgauss [black, white and green] I really love this watch, but the green sphire gives to the watch a wonderful image!! is by far the most prettiest Milgauss vs the other two...

Do you think that the Milgauss Green will be delivered in small quantities? Or Rolex really plan to deliver in mass?

Kind regards

God ( And Rolex ) only knows
Jul 24 2008,11:42 AM

How many will be produced and how long???
Don't know.
I don't think that it will be a short production, by the way, and they will come more and more on the market.
To supply to all the demands on this watch???
God only knows...
Best.
