All this talk about Titanium...What about TANTALLUM?
May 14 2008,12:39 PM

I have a PAM 172 which is the very first PAM I ever bought. I have to say I appreciate its look now more than ever.  The grey/blue case and the blue hands are very sublime when put on a light yellow strap.

Tantallum=Rodney Dangerfield of the PAM's...no respect!

In the Panerai World, this is Tantalium
May 14 2008,12:58 PM

And the more I think about it, the more I beleive that I would have been a delicious way for Panerai to think different and exclusive...
Well, to be clear, Tantaium Panerai watches are totally under rated and this is not just.
As you said, this combo grey case/ Blue hands is just sublime.
I had the 192, and I loved the case, but I hated this greenish luminova.
on the 172, this is less evident ( the greenish lumi is maybe more discrete)...
O love the feeling on the skin, this weight, this presence on the wrist...
Yes, Panerai should have believe in this metal, it's a pity.
And congrats to you, you have an original, exclusive and very interesting panerai!
Best.

172 is so gorgeous piece!

I also think that Panerai should consider this material, it's so nice surface and weight when you try to wear it.

I love such feeling.

Tanalium Panerai is so quite in the market, however keep it, wear it and safe it in the safe place. I am another guy to fell in love with 172. ;0)

The Panerai tantalum watches are awesome - both the PAM172 and PAM192
May 14 2008,20:09 PM

I was so close to pulling the trigger on the PAM192 but the only thing that held me back was the price tag.  The unique tantalum hue contrasts so well with the polished bezel.  Beautiful watch and will definitely be near the top of my list of watches to buy when I win the lottery!

Cheers,
Anthony

the 172 is one of my favorites

others have said it better than I, but all they've said is true - i LOVE that watch.  it's among the best "modern" PAM's, in my opinion.

Agreed... the PAM172 is one of my favorites too.

I really love the look, weight and feel of this watch. Tantalium or Tantallum is truly an awesome metal,  second cousin to tungsten...  I think. Perhaps Panerai should have made this one with a solid caseback too, just like the PAM192...  so as to increase the heft even more.

Overlooked... perhaps,  but I forsee them both increasing in value in the near future as collectors see them as the rare "Heavy Metal" PAM's  that they are...  and it never hurts being  S/E's from 2003 and 2004 (respectively), and both enjoying a limited run of 300 pieces.  Awesome watches!!

Its the Luminor case one should own, both 172 & 192
May 17 2008,08:48 AM

I have both and I don't bother to own other Luminor 44mm case....  great color on the casing and its like a worn out PVD with blue hands....

Someday it will come around and people will like to get their hands on it....

Happy watch collecting.

One of these days, or weeks or months, or years, it doesn't matter, these 172/192 will get the success they deserve.
Best.
