Problem with 1965 Speedy?
Feb 03 2010,07:29 AM

Guys, I wore my '65 Speedy today and tried activating the chrono (I often do this). After only a few minutes, I stopped the chrono and pressed reset, the chrono hand returned to its initial position and as always, thought it was ok as usual.
Only later I realized the hour totalizer was at 2 o'clock position???...I didn't know how it got there as I was only testing the chrono for a few minutes (I do this many times already with no problem ever...till now), not for a few hours.

I am confused how it (the hour totalizer hand) got to "2" (as if it had been running for 2 hours when I already resetted the chrono while the chrono & minute hands went back to zero)...

After realizing the odd hour sub dial, I restarted the chrono and pressed stop/reset. This time, the hour totalizer hand returned to 12 where it's supposed to be.

I understand this is an old watch but should I do something about it? Other than this incident, it has never given any problem.

Thanks for reading...

Easy adjustment by a watchmaker who knows the movement

Will require the dial to be taken off though.

Based on the responds I received on the other forum,
Feb 03 2010,17:18 PM

this appears to be a common problem r/e old Speedies with cal. 321. Looks like I need to make a trip to a competent watchmaker (if there's any in my city...I doubt it though as they may not be familiar to this mov't) or use the chrono less often smile

Thanks!

. . . and as MSN said, the adjustment is on the dial side of the movement . . . cordially, Art

good evening Rei. it is a simple fix and not a cause for concern.
Feb 04 2010,12:03 PM

from the large number of different model Speedmasters i have owned i can state catagorically that it is a reknowned lemania problem called 'the lazy hour'.

i've had 321's, 861's, 1040's etc doing it. as other esteemed members have already stated it is a simple fix. i know nothing about the technical side, but believe it is just something that needs tightening. i had the opposite happen with a 321 where the hour totaliser didnt move at all and that was just old oil gumming it up. after a service it was perfect.

it is also something that you can just ignore if it doesnt bother you too much and have it fixed when it needs a service.

best

Graham

I think it's fine now as I tested earlier...I will get it fixed when I have it serviced in the future. Thanks so much!
