Resale Value: Speedmaster Pro (Patch) vs America's Cup Seamaster
Jul 20 2008,03:23 AM

Hi all-
I am debating between a Speedmaster Pro (Golden Seahorse Patch: 311.30.42.30.01.001 ) or America's Cup Seamaster Chrono Diver 300m:  2599.52.00 (black dials with red hands).  Actually, I don't know if it is an America's cup that is on sale now, but modeled after the America's cup.  I know Omega ADs can provide nice discounts (30%), so I know resale value is lower than other brands (Rolex, IWC), but those watches are a little out of my comfortability.  That said, I know I can't expect these two watches to appreciate in value, but I would like a decent resale value, though I don't ever intend to sell.

I am leaning toward the Patch, or other speedmaster Pro (maybe sapphire sandwitch or moonphase, though the latter doesn't seem to be too popular, perhaps people may think it is a little over the top).  What I like about these speedmasters in particualr is the manual winding, I believe I will enjoy this connection with the watch and of course the history of the moon watch.  I wish it had a date, but then I will have to convince myself that the Original didn't and "too bad" for me. Also, I wish that the seconds hand was central and large, not a subdial, but I know both don't have this feature).

So it sounds like I am comparing:
1) resale value (the patch seems to be somewhat limited, but is 5k a limited qty?)
2) complications: date, manual vs auto, moonphase over the top?
3) Size: 41 (with He valve)  vs 42 (does either watch "wear" larger)

Anyone have any real pictures of the America's Cup or the equivalent, how red are those sub hands?  omega's website is very faint.

Any omegas that are like these styles that have central second hand vs sub dial?  Would the central hand be smooth or stop discretely at each second?  I much prefer smooth like the chrono second hand behaviour... maybe I solve this issue by having the chrono running at all times.

Thanks for all your feedback.
