Integrated Bracelet Pie Pan
Jul 19 2008,15:46 PM

I'm new to this forum.  I've been collecting vintage watches for the past five years and own several vintage Omegas.  My everyday watch is a '50, S/S subdial cal 266.

Last week while dropping off a '55 Seamaster that was having crown issues, I saw in my Watch Guys consignment case what appeared to be an 14/18kt, Pie Pan Constellation, gold dial with a smooth, integrated "linen" style bracelet attached directly to the case, in lieu of lugs.  A very dressy, dress watch.

I didn't have time to have Him open the case to  check out the numbers, which I will do this coming week. Normally, I'm not too attracted to pure dress watches or watches without lugs as it limits your strap/bracelet options.  It didn't appear to be a cobbled, marriage watch, but if anyone has any observations, I'd appreciate it.

could be a Brit Connie
Jul 22 2008,01:25 AM

It would be interesting to see the case and case back.  Quite a number of piepan connies, particularly case 168.004 types were offered in the UK with gold bracelets fused to the case.  In the mid 60s a service was offered by Omega UK where you could have the lugs removed and a bracelets fitted.

So there is a chance its a Brit Connie. They have slightly different case numbers that arent registered on the OMega database. Theres some examples in an essay I worte on gold Connies here

Case Ref. #'s
Jul 22 2008,13:45 PM

Desmond, thanks for the information.  I was able to swing by the shop and have a look at the case, case back and movement.  It's a 18kt case, cal 551, case ref. 14381/2SC-10.  Serial number is 17750xxx, which puts puts it about 1960/1961 depending how you interpret Omega's numbering system.  What's curious about the case is that you see vestiges of where the lugs might have been, as small, finished extensions.  The bracelet is 14kt with an Omega clasp.  I tried to reference the above information with Omega Vintage, but was unable to find any data.

I wasn't aware that they modified Omega cases in the UK, though I do have a Dennison cased '32, subdial man's watch with arabic numerals.  Something to do with gold, tariffs and the like.

yes this is a modification
Jul 23 2008,02:38 AM

Yes, as far as I know the 14381 should only have lugs and so it would be fairly reasonable to conclude that this was an after-market modification.  Love to see how this case looks with a mesh (probably Milanese looking) bracelet.

There could be other info on the bracelet that may assist in nailing down how this watch came to be.

regards

desmond
