JeanRichard - your thoughts
Apr 30 2008,21:53 PM

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen,

What are your thoughts about JeanRichard as a watch manufacture? I have just discovered it and absolutely love some of their watches... and it seems that the quality of watches is superb. however there is not a lot of feedback/discussion of JR watches on this and other forums.

Please comment on how you see JeanRichard and also how you see it against other young companies on the market.

Cheers, Vlad

JEANRICHARD is much on the move
May 04 2008,03:14 AM

G'day,

the brand is much in motion, probably much more than many "well-known" brands.
And the achievements are impressive; in less than 5 years, a manufacture-made movement and meanwhile a dozen unusual in-house modules allow for a number of interesting complications.
There are few to evolve likely and the watches are interesting, without jumping on "mainstream" trends of "bigger, blingier, louder" in any way.
The quality is on par with "big names", too.

And yet they aren´t public, as there´s no huge marketing campaign; the money goes into the watches rather than advertisement campaigns and PR departments - JEANRICHARD counts only about 2 dozen staff members in Switzerland (with some shared ressources with Girard-Perregaux).
It may be the absolute rarity that leads to lower public feedback; with only about 5.000 pieces made each year, it´s simply these pieces aren´t seen that often.

But i think you can´t do wrong with one of these.

Cheers,

Peter

Excellent pieces
May 05 2008,13:28 PM

Having the pleasure of owning two JR pieces, I can vouch for their superb quality and brilliant design. They sit easily amongst my other pieces and I would say surpass the likes of my Panerai and Omega.  I am fortunate enough to own a first generation TV screen and a current Diverscope and I thank the day I came across the brand! The manufacture movement, the JR1000, is very good and being incredibly versatile it can accomodate a number of additional module, some of them very interesting. This is a brand that I feel has a great future, although at present it is well known amongst many.

In summary, I would definately recommend the brand, their quality speaks for itself and their designs are a welcome breath of fresh air.

JeanRichard cont...

As you may have gathered, my earlier post was meant to say that the brand is NOT very well known amongst many. But if anything, this should encourage you! I definately feel a great deal of affection towards my JR pieces and I'd bet you won't find many owners who don't feel the same!

I agree! Top marks!
May 05 2008,14:08 PM

Hi everyone,

I definately agree that Jeanrichard make great watches, especially the 'in-house' models.  Having said that, even the few remaining models containing the modified base movements are superb. I think its important to remember how important overall build quality is, every piece feels solid and exceptionally well made. I'd certainly put their watches on a par with similar models from JLC, Chopard and Omega.

You only have to look at their specialities to realise the impressive caliber of the company, their tourbillon watches are simply amazing, not to mention their minute repeater!! (P.S. I want one!)

I definately agree with Maximus that JeanRichard has a very bright future and for me, it was love at first sight, which is understandable given their beautiful designs.

Thanks

Thank you everyone for your valuable input!

Unfortunately, I cannot go into a shop and try on some of the watches I like as our local (Melbourne, Australia) AD does not get  many. They seem to sell everything in Europe.

However I do look forward to an opportunity of checking out their pieces next time I go to Europe.

Will let you all know what I get, once I get it!

Cheers, Vlad
