My point of view.
Jan 15 2010,14:59 PM

In a very few words:

These news are not a surprise, it is one of the scenarii which were frequently described during the last quarter. The closing of the 4 Genta shops was the first step.

Let's face it: it is the end of the Genta and Roth brands a few weeks after their 40th and 20th anniversaries. You can't find worse timing if there is any good one for such news.

I would like to thank a lot Mr Genta, Mr Roth, Mr Roden, the people of the Manufacture, of Meyrin, of the Boutiques for their passion, their skills, their involvement. They created some unforgettable watches, some watches which are in the watchmaking history (for example, the most complicated wristwatch in 1994 and the most polemic one with the Mickey Fantasy watch in 1984). The Genta design and Roth style were easily recongnizable with a true and solid horogical interest.

The death of two brands is always sad but when these brands were able to produce Grande Sonnerie, in-house tourbillon and qp  watches, it is not only  sad for them, they are bad news for the whole industry.

If we look at the current situation, a "co-branding" is not an aim, it is a transition.

My point of view is that these Bulgari watches with the Genta name on the dial wouldn't exist during a very long period. Then, only the Bulgari name would be used. Of course, only time will tell and we will see if I'm right or wrong.

I'm very sad tonight.

Not as pessimistic

I kinda feel its a move to generate buzz & heads up to the industry & collectors that Bulgari is a formidable force, damn serious this time.

but im not too worried a bout DR & GG as later on, they could always be parted from the Bulgari as both brands r of vast values when the global econ recoverssmile

best,
Ed~

Yours is the best post on this rather sad topic to date. This message has been edited by AFSG on 2010-01-16 07:30:39
