Gerald Genta re-visited LITE
Jul 18 2008,14:19 PM

Dear forumners,

Some time back, I posted about a contemporary GG watch that caught my fancy click here

Don't panic Mr Bank Manager  -- I did not get one......as tantalising as the tantalum bezel was !  smile

But it does bode a question -- which model of GG in the more affordable price range could still catch the jaded MTF eye?

Are there any suggestions (with pictures) from the GG fans out there?

Regards,

MTF (Reformed Watchaholic)......er...reforming slowly

But at 46x13, it's just too big for me.  So all have are some pics of the Arena bi-retro sport

Let there be light !

Thanks very much for an affordable selection.

I like the thought behind the design.  Note that the hour ring gets "charged" with ambient light so that when the next hour marker jumps into the display window, the SuperLuminova can glow in the dark.

If the hour numerals had been hidden behind an opaque dial, they would not be half as functional.

Regards,

MTF

I love the Fantasy pieces...

My "beef" with that tourbillon is that Mickey isn't involved in time-telling. he just sits there!

I picked this up for my fiancee and she loves it.

The size is perfect for this kind of watch... even on my wrist it felt perfect.

The finish and detail on the dial are truly impeccable...

Wow - they have gone upmarket

Amr,

I don't remember this level of finishing and quality of the dial - alas - my initiation to GG was during the phase when it was owned by a Far East company (After Mr Genta and before Bvlgari) so the dial/cases were made to a lower price-point......

Thanks for sharing....apart from the obvious Mr Mouse on the dial, have you spotted any other hidden Mickey?

smile

funny you should ask...
Jul 20 2008,11:23 AM

I just spotted the hidden Mickey for the first time today while looking at my pics!

The overall finishing and value, if I may so so, has risen tremendously since the Bulgari takeover.

These Fantasy pieces are a real bargain if you can find 'em!

For myself however, the black GEFICA hits the spot biggrin someday soon I hope...

Really funny watch, and, as you perfectly said...Impeccable finish, which adds to the appeal of this watch...

But for me, defintely, the Gefica!!!

best.

YES. Dial finish is exceptional on the Mickey. ..more on resales
Jul 20 2008,16:46 PM

Yes. Resales can be terrible, as I read on a post below.

But note that (1) There are very few of these for sale brand new, as compared to Patek and Rolex and JLC and iWC.

(2) There are even fewer for resale. So like the Freak from UN, you can see $37K to $73K being done.

Watches like these are like ahci pieces, too many , way too many lookers and ineterested people looking, few transactions. Actually much worse than wine and art, where there are fewer lookers and discussions. And proportionately fewer deals done.

If you are looking at any Mickey from this genre..new offers a special sentiment if you are never gonna sell it, and used offers the advantage of "buy low sell high" (buying low almost always means buying when no one wants to buy).

I think I am putting my money where my mouth is, because I am buying the Sailor/navigator..version next month.
