Dear Anthony Tsai; first of all, many thanks for all your work
May 09 2008,10:09 AM

here on the forum, I just don't tell you enough how much your efforts are appreciated!
My question for today is do you have any idea about how many hits per day/week the PuristSPro forum receives? I was in a meeting the other day and was astounded at the number of hits a popular collector car site was getting(not to be mentioned). Please ignore if this is not an appropriate question or breaks any rules.
Best regards,
Tim

Thanks for the kinds words Tim
May 09 2008,13:57 PM

but the credit goes to the entire PPro team as our global team is working 24 hours a day smile

Yes we have stats on how many hits our site gets along with the breakdown with individual forums, but unfortunately we do not share that data with the public.  All I can say is that PPro is growing very strong both in terms of users and # of hits every month, as one can see just from the # of users in the below footer.

Sorry I can't share any more info sad

Cheers,
Anthony

Hi Anthony, I understand and was cautious with my question,
May 09 2008,16:16 PM

just curious when I found out the car site was getting over 500K hits per day! Thanks to all the moderators of course and hope everyone has had a little rest from all the excitement--great reporting and photographs too. Best, Tim

You always need a qualifier
May 09 2008,23:11 PM

Hi Tim,

The word hits is very misleading.  One page can have a 100 hits as hits are not page views or page impressions.  Also most sites include in their page counts crawlers which in general make up as much as 50% of the page impressions.

Web Quote
"

One webpage, many hits

Hits are commonly misinterpreted as a metric for website success, however the number of hits rarely translates to the number of people visiting a website. Nor are the number of hits the same as the number of webpages viewed. (Individual webpages accessed, or ‘page views’, are a more meaningful metric.)

A webpage is typically made up of a number of individual files. When a webpage is viewed, each of these files is requested from the web server, and each file request increases the hit-count for the website.

For example, if a homepage comprises:

  • an document;
  • two
  • ten images and;
  • a  JavaScript file;

then 14 hits will be added to the hit-count each time the homepage is viewed.

So, if your home page has six graphics associated with it, your server's log files actually register seven "hits" when the page is loaded: one for the page plus one for each graphic. When the Web began and people started boasting about how many hits they were getting, it quickly became obvious that you could get dozens or even hundreds of hits with a single gigantic home page.
"

So while I don't doubt that the car site is doing very well you should always read between the lines.

I am happy to say that to us all that counts is that each and every user that comes and participates as a reader or a contributor fully enjoys his visit.  We are always open and ready to listen to the communities needs and that is our prime goal.

HAGWE.

Bill

Always a pleasure
May 10 2008,10:26 AM

Hi Tim,

Again I do not doubt that a car site could have high traffic even 500k pages per day so pleas don't read me as not believing or dismissive.

Also the fact that PuristSPro is not publishing page counts does not mean that they are high or low.  It simply that there are so many ways to report stats and as we all know the stereo with the volume knob that goes to 11 is better than one that goes to 10.

The rubber hits the road when we have a happy community and yes it is growing stronger everyday due to great members like your self that have thoughtful comments to contribute.  Our hope is that the more members that are happy here the more people they will invite to visit.  And as they say  a friends of yours is a friend of mine.

Between MTF and pplater they have coined a new term for us "PuristS-at-large"  - "PaLs" I thought that was a fitting definition of this community.

HAGWE.

Bill

Marked increase....
May 09 2008,20:29 PM

Anthony, it certainly seems from the public data (i.e. the footer) that there has been a marked, consistent increase in the number of registered users [a term used advisedly ;-)...] and visitors over the last few months. Does the 'omerta'  permit you to confirm that perception and advise what the impetus might have been? A deliberate effort? A function of the Basel/SIHH interest? Whatever it was, it's a great outcome.

Cheers,

pplater.

I see firsthand...
May 10 2008,22:10 PM

...all the work that Anthony puts into this website.  It is a great deal without a doubt; everyday, during his day job and afterwards, during meals...and even while driving. YIKES!  (I already told him that if he wants to kill himself, to do it while we are not in the car with him)  smile  He is truly dedicated, loyal, and passionate.  PuristSPro is unmatched in its quality and content because of the strong team behind it and all the contributors that visit everyday.

Yes, Tim, Anthony did and does every day a great and impressive job
May 10 2008,23:32 PM

And if this website is what it is, we all can thank Anthony for that, BUT also all the guys who read us and participate on this forum...

Yes, each of you, readers, writers, made and make of this forum a nice and great place.

An evidence?

Ok: When the Purist Team decided to create a Panerai and later, a Rolex Forum, we all thought that it will be with 0 risk, because people here is educated, polite, and respectuous of each other...

These 2 new fora are successful, because of the people who go and participate on them...

So we can also than each of this people, without forgetting the impressive JOB Anthony makes here!

Cheers A.T, cheers to all of you!

Nicolas

PuristSPro is what it is because of our entire team and the community participants
May 11 2008,10:50 AM

I believe PuristSPro currently has around 24 global moderators and growing so our team is always literally working 24 hours a day.  And not only that, our global community, such as yourself and everyone else here, are also contributing to the forum success and interesting and original content.

We've made a successful transition from the Network54 platform to our new V2 platform (yes there were some minor kinks we had to fix but in general it went fairly smoothly), and we've created our FrontPage which I hope many here are using as your entry point into PuristSPro, and one can now scan all the new interesting content in all our forums in few seconds.  Extremely easy to update so our FrontPage is always fresh and not stagnant.  We also have our PPro logo, and there are only a couple things left to do to complete everything we need to do to have a solid foundation structurally and technically.

I cannot imagine how Thomas did all this himself for around 5 years on ThePuristS, and I'm just happy to be a part of this unique, awesome, and enjoyable PuristS community.

Cheers,
Anthony

PS.  My mom is in town so sorry if I don't have enough time to respond to everyone's posts.  Gonna fire up the BBQ for our mother's day dinner smile

YES THANKS TO THE PPL IN CHARGE
May 11 2008,21:19 PM

Yes I would like to offer my personal gratitude to the ppl here. This is the only website I found where Bernard Cheong shared his wealth of info on the IWC Portoguese Auto that I have been eyeing for some time. I am happy to report that with his posting I am now wearing it. :0)
