Gentleman it is "Friday" and that means ...
May 09 2008,02:59 AM

I want to see your watches on the wrist ;-)

The new ones, the old ones, the big ones, the small ones, the blinky ones, the fancy ones, .... everything.

Let me start with an "old" one of mine which got a new bracelet a few weeks ago:

picture from today

... and some old´s when I got the new bracelet

And sorry, no more (female) calendar photo this time. Maybe you can imagine why, if you see the next picture ;-)

I wish you all a nice weekend.

The passing of the baton
May 12 2008,14:19 PM

Hi all,

My first post in this forum.
Was fortunate to meet Art a week ago at a Burbank GTG. A Mark II Speedmaster, with that dial and hand combo had been on my "grail" list for quite a while, and was quite excited when it showed up at that gathering. Got to check it out up close and personal when I noticed it was sized for my wrist. I then nearly fell off my chair when he said that he wanted to sell it!
The story behind this watch, and the 5 months Art spent having it lovingly restored make it even more special, though the darker part of it's history is in the distant past. It went to someone who truly appreciates it - me.

Thanks, Art!

Snak

I have a pretty varied collection of moderately priced old and new. A lot of Omegas (Speedmaster, Planet Ocean, Railmaster, Dynamic, older Constellations, Cosmic 2000, Seamasters, and a couple Hamilton Electrics, Accutrons, Elgins, and others. G-Shocks and older Seiko diver for getting dirty.
Not quite affluent enough for the high-end Rolex (do have an older ss Datejust), AP or PP, but appreciate the workmanship and style of all those.
So many watches, so little time (or money) smile

Soon to be a wrist shot...
May 09 2008,12:45 PM

These pieces came from the caster today.
Now I have my work cut out for me for a while.

This movement will come in there with a new dial made of slate with phyrite speckles.

Raw slate

Cut to shape and holes drilled

Dressing to thickness

Polishing finished and ready for printing.
It is neat the way the structure of the stone is enhanced by polishing.

Maybe the next watch with a meteorite dial ?

What do you think ?
Don

Don, love the slate dial(as long as its Welsh slate) also love the original dial
May 09 2008,14:15 PM

shame to change it really. couldnt you keep the original and use the slate for next watch.

the meteorite is a bit blingy and reminds me of the platinum and diamond forum. i think you'd need a very plain design with hands that stand out to make it work. just MHO.

love the case BTW, but it'll take a lot of rubbing with a cape cod cloth to get it shiny smile

all the best

May 10 2008,03:15 AM

the 1960 alpha and 1962 spaceviews left now sad  as you know i Luurve hummers. theres something sublime about a tuning fork, watching that second hand sweep endlessly. they deserve more credit for their achievements me thinks. will they eventually get recognition and the investment potential they deserve or just disappear into oblivion??

when i moved house 200 miles i had to take my watches myself. removals guys wouldnt insure or be responsible for them so i boxed them all up and had about 40 tuning forks in 1 box. you could hear the humm from the back of the car despite the kids, dogs, wind and engine. unbeatable sensation.

wear it carefully
