Don Corson, a moment in time - the man, the passion, the watch

Jun 21, 2009,21:53 PM

Greetings to all, This past week, I had the pleasure meeting up with Don in Philadelphia and I was honored to be presented with the Dresdener Nr.3. I met Don last October during our trip to Switzerland. It was then that I happened to be seated during our first dinner next to Don. He proudly showed me the three watches that he had created. In the course of several further conversations, we discussed his passion for watches and the process by which he came to watchmaking. An American Ex-pat, a degree in music, he moved to Germany in pursuit of a career as an organ maker. He subsequently changed career by studying engineering. A job with Swatch Company led him to Switzerland. While there, he read a book by George Daniels several times (admittedly, the first time he didn't understand much of what he read) and concluded that watches (a long term interest) presented enough of a interest that he could attempt to make one. His attitude was, "I can do this so why not?" Now, a number of years ago, I wrote a book. A novel. Nothing came of it, not published, still sitting in my computer but nonetheless, it was a sense of accomplishment. I had started something heretofore I never thought that I could but wanted to. Listening to his story and looking at the Dresdener Nr. 3 I realized this was the story of my book. His watch was his version of my book. A dream, a desire and finally a finished piece of work. I had to have the watch,

Out of many pieces
Out of many pieces

Comes a watch
Comes a watch

Thanks Don. I love the watch and am a happy and proud supporter of your dream and your passion. More to come. Mitch

Congrats to you Mitch, you are now the first client who owns a Don Corson watch. Congratulations to Don Corson, a watchmaker who found his first (of many to come) client!

Yes, this is a historical moment...

Not only that but the Purists met thanks to a Purists trip so this was a truly Purist

match made in Purist heaven (all right so it was a little sappy). That said, I believe that thanks to all the Purists, many a watch purchase can be traced back to the information, support, feedback and information obtained from one and other whether on li...

it is my hope and desire to share this watch with all. Unlike any of my other watches, I do not consider it to be only mine. I truly believe that this is Don's and mine. I want to thank Don for letting me be a part of the creative process in some small de...

Don, how does it feel to make your own watch? You can be very proud, my friend. And Mitch, wearing a piece unique? That must be fantastic! Best, Nicolas

At this point just having the watch after 8 months of anticipation is terrific.

The fact that the watch is a pleasure to wear and amazing to look at. Another thrill was the fact that I received the watch directly from the hands that actually made the watch. How often does that happen? That the watch is unique is only an added benefit...

Congratulations

to Mitch, a truly unique and beautiful watch, how many people can follow the complete building process of their watch, and how many people can become part of someone elses dream? Great story! to Don, on finding your very first customer, can't wait to see ...

Mitch, a hearty congratulations to you, on the receipt of a simply lovely piece unique, and thanks for supporting an independent watchmaker (and a fellow Purist to boot!). I think it is important to support these lone artisans amongst a sea of more indust...

Actually, I asked Don how he felt about the parting from his creation...

 By: Mitch K : June 23rd, 2009-06:55
Don did say to me that he was fine with it leaving the nest as it was the creation of the watch that was the most interesting part. Ever the tinkerer and engineer, once he had finished the watch he was thinking about the next project. He is a true creator...

Congrats to you both!
