Voutilainen and Dufour
May 08 2008,19:18 PM

iam very excited about the discussions tking place about the two giants.Ihave to say one thing patek back in the fortys made an expensive observatory watch using the valjoux90 cal does it make it less desirable watch? no it is aincredibly well finished watch.Audemars used the same caliberMRDufour was inspired totally ibelieve from this caliberThat doesnt make him less of an artistVoutilainen did the same thing that patek did.If  we do not say anything about patek we can not say anything about Kari

my opinion is that people are fast to comment on Kari and his observatory watch regarding the fact that he used the vintage caliber in reallity he has done so much work that it is atotally different thing

A lot of independants use a base which is not in-house :

Urwerk (La Joux Perret, GP or Peseux)
Peter Speake-Marin (ETA)
Max Büsser (GP)

and so on...

and each watch is marvelous...

Finally quite often, a caliber with an external base but with a big horological work is much more interesting than an in-house caliber.

I think the in-house / non in-house criteria is not a relevant one of the quality of a watch.

Well, it's my point of view.
