The overseas as a TOUGH watch ?
Jun 17 2008,03:40 AM

Is the overseas TOUGH ?

Dear friends

I like very mich the new overseas :

But, I am lloking for a tough watch.

Clearly this one is OK for water resistance and magnetic fields resistance.

My concern is : shock resistance.

I know some stratches will inevitably appear on the case and I don't really care. But what about the movement ? Do you think this Piguet caliber will handle shocks and vibrations as the "look" of the watch let it assume ?

Thanks a lot !!!

If its as solid as the Overseas Automatic....
Jun 17 2008,05:40 AM

I've had my Overseas Automatic for three months, I play tennis, swim and wear it all the time except at the gym.  Of course its the cal.1126/1 based upon the JLC 889 not the Piguet.  Its running about +2 sec a day, not bad for all the activity!

My old-model Overseas is very tough.

It has received a considerable number of sporting-type shocks without apparent ill effect. It's a different movement from the new one (a Girard-Perregaux base), but I would hope that the movement VC selected for its newer model is not meaningfully weaker.

A marvellous watch and a great picture!
Jun 18 2008,23:08 PM

I thought it had the FP 11.85 inside. It's somewhere said to be a 'fragile' one, but I have only good experience myself (in AP, I have never owned a VC).

Thanks for a great scan! I really LOVE that watch. It has it all: brown dial, large date, chrono, a marvellous movement - and it's GOLD as well. Wow!

VC Overseas Chrono Is Rugged
Jun 22 2008,20:20 PM

With questions posed on the ruggedness of the VC Overseas Chrono watch, I found this information in an article in the "Watch Quote" under their test bench series - dated 1/14/05.

"The Vacheron Constantin company began to work on antimagnetic watches in 1846. A century and a half later, the movements in the Overseas are entirely surrounded by a special metal jacket, which makes the models in this range totally impervious to magnetism."

"Overseas Chronograph Sport par excellence
The Overseas Chronograph was intended for everyday use, but designed to be robust, (its 316L stainless steel alloy case is knock and shock resistant and guaranteed water tight to a depth of 150 meters). Like an open invitation to travel and get away, the back of the case carries the Overseas emblem, a splendid sailing ship cut into the metal."

As I find additional information on the rugged and technical features, I will post them. If you have any additonal information on this subject, please assist by adding as well. Thanks!!  Regards, Matt
