Reference 5396G
Feb 07 2010,13:48 PM
Hi All, I am thinking about purchasing a sector-dial 5396G from an AD for a decent price (I got a look at the new 5396 last week and thought it was a little too "conservative" for my taste). Thoughts on the collectibility of the sector dial model? Thanks. |

Mind the scratches !

Not sure about collectibility but I'd be very concerned about the scratches if it's worn at all. I tried one on the other day and while it's a superb watch (size, shape, weight, dial are perfect to my eyes), the large polished bezel is likely going to be a scratch magnet. Looking at my 5711G I'm glad the major part of the bezel if brushed because the shiny parts look like an ice skating rink... |

I wouldn't say the new 5396 is too conservative, it's too archetype Calatrava.

I like the refinement of the 24 h dial on the new model, but I am sad to see the individuality of the sector dial gone. As for collectibleness of the 5396, it is too early to say how in demand the 5396 will be. History does say, the sector dial are among the most cherished Patek models at auction. -- Richard. |

But only...

Hi Richard,
you said the sector dial is very cherished in the auctions, but I think with vintage pieces only...!? Time will tell if it was the same with the newer models also.. best Erich |
