Patek 1518...
Jul 18 2008,10:28 AM
It's an amazing watch, highly sought after first series Patek perpetual chrono. I would suggest checking the major auction houses to get a feel for the how they rate condition, and how it would compare to the piece in question. The auction houses sale results will also give you a pretty good indication of the current market value of this particular model. In addition, it would also be prudent to take a few pics, and share it with the community to get some input from other fellow collectors. I also wrote an article about the "History of the Patek Perpetual Chronograph wristwatches", which included a bit of information on the famed 1518 (just do a a search, I think it was posted around February, 2008). Here's a couple of pics for guidance:
Best of luck, it's a smashing watch. Arthur. arolex..

Great watch to get

I must say I find it interesting that you would consider such a high end watch with your self admitted lack of vintage PP. These watches are very rare and most people who even come across them have significant PP knowledge,They hardly ever just are found! Also if you considering spending many, many dollars and don't know enough about this watch and have to ask the forum- this surprises me too Good luck in your pursuits Julian |

Hmmm
Jul 18 2008,16:29 PM I was wondering the same. Doesn't seem right unless it's a fake. |

A fake is your unnecessary comment concerning this matter : you can learn something from Arthur and please read my answer to Julian... but ok ...... all of us understood ....you know everything about 1518

Inexperience
Jul 21 2008,20:17 PM
If, as you say, you don't have any experience in vintage Patek, then you should not be buying this watch just by getting input from this forum. You need to show the physical piece to an expert. The 1518 is one of the most collectible and expensive vintage Pateks on the market. If this is the real deal and in good condition, it will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars. So unless this is the price range you have been discussing, you are either buying a fake or your friend is unaware of what he has which I suspect is very unlikely. And if this is in your price range, then I respectfully suggest you take every precaution before spending this kind of money.

Dear Julian ,
Jul 20 2008,22:40 PM
in life, in every field, I learnt that is better to have more and more informations : these are never enough and you can learn a lot from the others. Even if you think to have enough informations ( in this case about 1518) . I had a lot of info from the "market point of view" of these watches from Antiquorum,Bonhams, Patrizzi Auction ( Ferri),Christie's and Sothebys. But all of them are in the commercial field ( "on the other part " ) for me. They are speaking about "investment" watches (especially 1518,2499,130, bla, bla, bla) absolutly in the right way ( the economic profile in this situation is "terrible" important) . The suggests of the Purists have for me 10 times more value. And in this way I can analyze a "watch offer" better, for sure . In this wonderful forum I consider that there are many Purists with an incredible know how ( look Arthur for example) . So dont' be surprise......and thanks for your wishes .
Regards ,
