I have recently acquired a...
Jul 13 2008,03:22 AM

I have recently acquired a 1960's 18 karrot white gold Calatrava model no 3537.  I have had it serviced and as such, have had it's authenticity verified and confirmed the serial number from inside the case.  However, on the face of the watch it says Patek Philippe & Co and beneath that it says "Ginebre", which seems to be unusual.  I have emailed Patek but have not received a response as yet, so can anyone help with an explanation as to why the face is so different to anything else I have seen?

Not a joke!
Jul 13 2008,04:07 AM

Hey you might take it as a joke but i think the watch has a re- printed dial and the guy who printed it must have belonged to a third world country like mine and he has undoubtedly spelt "GENEVE" as "GENEBRA". From your first post i was thinking maybe someone got his name printed on the dial but the location of the word suggests that it is obviously Geneve spelt wrong by some genious. The only reason of this spelling mistake can be the damaged section of the dial and the gentleman was not able to get the words right.

Did you send it in a Certified Patek Service Centre? How did you verify its authenticity? Just curious.

Please explain...
Jul 14 2008,01:12 AM

Hi. please forgive my ignorance, but why do you think this is not Patek. The only problem I see is that it has GENEVE=GINEBRA (in Spanish) written on the dial. I do not have bibliography to check whether this is a real Patek, but it does seem a well-finished watch.

I am still trying to recover from your reference to Star-Trek. LOL... Very good.

No doubts on its originality,

I dont have any command on spanish, but your opinion makes sense, maybe its not mis spelt, maybe the dial was reprinted in Spain. But the overall timepiece looks quite genuine!.
