ART : PP 5101 10 days tourbillon (and the affordable 5124)
Jul 05 2008,11:19 AM

First I would like to thank Jacques Degreef otherwise I could not share those pics. It was the first time in my life I saw a Patek 10 days tourbillon. This was already a good feeling. I can't describe how it felt when I was allowed to 'play' with it between 10.00 and 11.30 this morning.

Those pics are the best I could do but believe me, this watch gives you shivers.

I could always sell my house and buy this watch but I have a strange feeling my girlfriend would not like the idea smile  LOL
So I better stop dreaming. Such a piece will always be out of my league.
BUT, if you really like the looks and want something similar (without the 10 days power reserve and ofcourse without the tourbillon) you can always try the 5124.
At the fraction of the price you get a very good looking dress watch.

Bruno, thanks for the side by side. I tired the plat version on in FL two yeears ago. My wife had the WG on in Bev Hills in May. If we sell the house we might be able todo both. truely stunning pieces.

5124 Hand Wind
Jul 05 2008,17:41 PM

Thanks Bruno. I've played with the 5124 recently. Its hand winding experience is sensational! The right tactile and audible feedback is superb! Value for money in my own opinion. I'd even recommend this watch to any first time Patek buyer anytime!

Thanks for sharing!

Mech.

It's great to see these two together!

You can tell that they are from the same gene pool but obviously one is in a different league.I agree with you that the 5124 is a good starting option for those not wishing to sell their houses.

Thanks for sharing. Pics are wonderful BTW.

Cheers

Fernando

Thanks for the comparison Bruno

The finish of the black polished tourbillon bridge on the 5101 is absolutely amazing; the sharp corners on the edges of the bridge say it all.

Thanks Bruno

for this in depth side by side pictures comparison as lots of us would not have the chance to see 5101P in flesh

agreed with Mech, as some say 5124 is the "poor man's" 5101 - actually not that poor as we might be able to pay DP for a house with 5124

Thanks, Bruno to have answered to something I wondered
Jul 05 2008,22:18 PM

With this brilliant comparison between these 2 very nice watches!
The 5124 is a brilliant watch, indeed.
Simple and elegant.
The 5101P too, of course, this rare bird is really something.
In the middle of the road you have the 5100 Ten Days, without tourbillon, and its case originally shaped.
My Holy grail ( 5100 WG).
Thanks again for this very interesting comparison, my friend.
You indeed were lucky to see these 2 pieces!

Grails?
Jul 06 2008,00:50 AM

I have really too many.

For me, but it may be the definition of a Grail, this is a watch I won't have because of its price :

An Astronomical watch like the PP 5102, or Ulysse Nardin Planetairum ,

A technical one, like the JLC Gyro I or II, or the VC Chrono perpetual Malte in platinum.

An Historical : The Rolex 5517, or the Panerai Small Egitiano.

And because of their rarity, quite impossible to find.

So, at the end, I have 5 or 6 Grail Watches...Yes, too much! LOL

Best.
Nicolas

Thank you so much....

Hi,

Thank you so much for sharing these pics!

Those two watches are just gorgeous.

Obviously if I could pick one I have no doubt about which one I would elect!  smile

Still the other one is nearly as beautiful IMO, and could well be a dream come true!

I have hope! smile

That's magic!

Both are very nice watches and I'm sure that the 5101 was great to handle.
