Thumbs "up" or "down" with this Calatrava?
May 16 2008,07:40 AM

Hi, I've been posting on a few other places asking about this 3919, as I want to a broad spectrum of opinions about what people think about it.  To me, I think it is really stunning. It caught my eye and I can't get it out of of my head.

The pic doesn't do justice to the looks.

I think this model is last batch of 3919s PP made before discontinuing the line, so there aren't very many of them the dealer said. There are also dark charcoal and brown dials models too. The charcoal lacked depth and warmth, so it didn't work with me; and  I haven't seen a brown (but it's the blue that is speaking to me.) This piece looks quite out of the ordinary from most PPs, so maybe that is another reason I like it because it's a little "different". But that's also why other people might not like it. I am just curious what others have to say, as I don't want to look like an oddball wearing it.

Buy if YOU like it...our opinions don't matter. I certainly don't want to spend lots of money on a watch based on public's opinion.
Good luck!!! biggrin

True, taste is personal, so it shouldn't matter.......

but since it isn't your "everyday" PP, I was curious what others might think of a blue dial, or hobknob bazel, etc.

If PP made these watches, and I've seen a lot of them "Sold Out" already on websites, it means that there are others like me out there who like it.  But I get the feeling most PP people would prefer white dial or something more traditional.

In the end, the opinions won't affect whether I get it, as the decision is up to me, of course.

Thanks.

If that's the case, then I will give you my personal opinion.

I think combo of YG and blue dial is unique to Patek (many old people got Elipse with the same combo), I don't really fancy it (YG especially). If it had come with a WG case, it'd have been a different story. Plus, the size is too small for me. 5119 is 35-36mm (?) would still be ok for me. My perfect size would be between 40-42 mm, 38 mm would be acceptable as well. Though I am quite big in nature, I don't really fancy those 44mm+ wristwatches.

So again, if this 3919 brings a smile on your face, go ahead and get it smile

very subjective reaction

I have never warmed to this model or those like it, with their hob-nail bezels and painted roman numerals.  For my tastes, there's something too dressy and almost effete about this design.  But of course this is a HUGELY subjective view.

Sorry, can't love that one

The white numerals and hands remind me of white shoes and belt.  Just not what I would call elegant.  But if you like it, to hell with my opinion.  I'm just a guy on an Internet forum.  You are the guy who will have the watch on your wrist.

This is a limited edition of 3919

for the Asian market. I actually bought this version the moment I saw it at my AD. It was said 250 each for each dial.

I like but I prefer an automatic over a manual... A pretty 3445 with the blue dial is awesome

I personally love it...

.......the hob-nail on the bezel is a true classic, and to the cliche, " if you love it..."  How true how true. Worry not what other thinks, and wear your watch with pride, for there will be others that are envious of you.

Not too bad.

I think the blue dial works better with the stark, black strap than the white dial in a similar 5119. I tried on a 5119 YG, but to me. the black strap was just too overpowering. The strap was also a little thinner, non-padded.

I do like, however, the 5120. Ultra thin and automatic. Very simple, classic design.

If you see it in the metal and like it, go for it! Nice, dressy watch.

Bob
