Venturing out for Breguet
Jul 13 2008,17:08 PM

Hi,

This is my first post here.  Thinking of getting a more summer casual/outdoor watch, I came across Marine here and I like it.  I have been a Lange fan and A. Lange and Breguet has some connection, so why not?  Besides, Marine 5817 is - the more I see you various photos, the more I like it.  Size-wize, perhaps okay for my smaller wrist, and the contrast of silver/white dial and blue Breguet hands AND roman numerals.  Big date is also a plus.  I tend to wish it were manual winding, but the automati c caliber seems to be very accurate and I can live with that.  Steel is fine, as long as it is white metal (I am a white metal junkie) - is there WG version?  Maybe not.

So, I may take a plunge - which color?  I may like silver one best.  And I may want leather strap also.  Would someone tell me the size of the strap - lug side as well as buclke width?  I will have it made somewhere.  Thank you!

Best,
Ken

Plenty of choice…

Hi Ken

Welcome.

The Marine 5817 comes in steel (with a silver or blue dial), 18K white gold (with a black dial), 18K pink gold (with the aforementioned black dial) and 18K yellow gold (with a silver dial). The white metal models come with either a metal bracelet or rubber band, but Breguet will also supply an alligator band and deployant. You will need to check with an AD.

The Marine is 39mm and wears very comfortably on the rubber band. I haven’t tried the bracelet. The blue steel version is particularly fetching. Very easy to read and I like the grand date and the ‘wave’ theme carried throughout the watch. From comments of other owners here, I think you would be very happy.

Have a browse on the official Breguet website as well.

So, take the plunge, preferably into some warm blue tropical waters, but perhaps not with a leather strap. Enjoy the decision.

Andrew

Thanks, Andrew.

I will post the result when or if I take the plunge.  Thanks.

Hi Ken...the strap size is 20mm x 18mm

Hi Ken,

The strap size is 20mm x 18mm but the deployment clasp in yellow gold is the most impressive that I have seen and you should check that out before deciding.

The clasp is beautiful and bold ...and can be worn casually or formally.

Kindest regards,

Jack
