Breguet

Where should the Tradition Collection go next?

In what direction would you like to see the Tradition collection move? We will have the tourbillon with fusee and chain shortly, but the case is rather ungainly. Using the beautifully proportioned original (manual wind) 37x11.8 mm case, what additional complications would you like to see?

A Breguet moonphase would add a nice whimsical touch. How about a calendar function, annual, perpetual? Grand date? Something from A.-L.Breguet’s vault of ideas?

Any thoughts / dreams?

as well as a moonphase.  I don't think a chrono Tradition works with the look of the Tradition, but I am curious to see how a chrono version would look like if Breguet does ever make one.

A La Tradition Chronograph

I’ve been thinking about this the last couple of days. I would prefer the Tradition series to channel more of the history and complications of A.-L. Breguet and the work of the Company that followed him, but the idea of a chronograph is interesting.

 

Christian made the point previously that the architecture of the La Tradition allows you to clearly observe the function of the watch. A chronograph with the mechanism laid out across the front of the watch, could be wonderful.

dumb quarter repeater.  Combines a common complication of the 18th century, and one that hasn't been made in years, with the current trend of repeaters, and in a way that might be affordable

Hi Aaron and Anthony,

 

I think it would be great to keep the complications of the Tradition consistent with inventions that the man himself was involved with. We already have many of the classic touches in the current range such as the Breguet spiral/overcoil, parachute, and engine-turned dial and of course the tourbillon.

 

A.-L. Breguet did, I understand, develop his own unique striking mechanism and a repeater would certainly fit in with the period and the mythology of owning a Breguet timepiece.

 

I think that a perpetual calendar would be interesting (Breguet developed a system in 1795) or would someone like to see a thermometer, ala the Marie Antoinette watch?

I’m happy as long as you are still enjoying that La Tradition. My initial puppy love followed by infatuation with the La Tradition has led to a long term commitment, so I am happy too.

 

Thanks also for the pictures. I can really never get enough of this watch, so many wonderful parts to photograph and the personality of the watch changes in different light.

 

The post below really flushed out some great pictures, so thanks for contributing.

each complication will appear. The La Tradition is selling very well and it has created a new aesthetic identity for Breguet beyond the silver guilloche dial and pomme hands so Breguet will surely cash in on that. I expect to see a chronograph as well as some sort of calendar watch at the very least, though I won't be surprised to see more exotic complications like rattrapante or striking watches. One of the strengths of the La Tradition range seems to be its flexibility in terms of pricing, the La Tradition Tourbillon is fifteen times the price of the original La Tradition yet it is popular and its appeal has not been diminished by the relation to the more accessible models. That being the case, I think Breguet can introduce virtually any complication, including those well beyond CHF500,000 and still be successful.
