Breguet Celebrates Sponsorship of Precision and Splendor: Clocks and Watches at The Frick Collection

New York , NY (May 17, 2013) —World renowned watch brand, Breguet, takes another significant step in preserving arts and culture worldwide with its latest sponsorship of "Precision and Splendor: Clocks and Watches at The Frick Collection." On the evening of Thursday, May 16th, Breguet held an invitation-only gala at The Frick Collection for its patrons and friends of the brand to mark this partnership.

This exquisite exhibition gives visitors a glimpse to the evolution of horology in a majestic timeline spanning three hundred years. Timepieces from the 1500s to the 1800s showcasing elaborate dials and splendid craftwork are masterfully curated by Charlotte Vignon , Associate Curator of Decorative Arts, The Frick Collection.

The exhibition highlights three historic timepieces by Abraham-Louis Breguet and his son Louis-Antoine—a double dial desk clock, a gold tourbillon pocket watch, and a gilt-bronze carriage clock.

"We greatly appreciate Breguet's support of Precision and Splendor and have enjoyed our ongoing partnership," commented Ian Wardropper , Director of The Frick Collection. "Breguet's deep appreciation for the historic timepieces on view has made our collaboration with them particularly fruitful and rewarding. And, through their connections to contemporary collectors, they have been able to share these beautiful objects with like-minded enthusiasts."

The evening, hosted by Michael Nelson , Breguet U.S. brand manager, also reminded Breguet's patrons of the brand's support for musical arts with a special performance by Sony artist, Yoonie Han . Han is a South Korean pianist who has won high accolades for her international concerts and who made her solo debut at the young age of 13 with the Seoul Philharmonic.

To add flair, guests were surrounded by Breguet's most outstanding timepieces such as the La Musicale musical watch, the Reveil du Tsar alarm watch in enamel dial (boutique exclusive), the award-winning Hora Mundi world time watch, and a high jewelry Les Jardin du Petit Trianon ladies' watch boasting approximately 10cts of diamonds.

"Precision and Splendor: Clocks and Watches at The Frick Collection" is on view until February 2014. For more information visit: http://www.frick.org/collection/collections/clocks

About Breguet

The world's number one luxury watchmaker

Since it was acquired by the Swatch Group in 1999, Montres Breguet has rapidly moved into the world number one position in luxury watchmaking. Its new products, the true measure of brand dynamism, and its capacity for innovation continue to be a priority. To such an extent that the creativity and ingenuity of Breguet have not run out of steam with the passage of time, but rather have grown, since the number of patents granted under the leadership of Nicolas G. Hayek exceeds the number of inventions recorded by its founder, A.-L. Breguet (1747–1823). Today the brand is continuing to reinforce its dominant role in the development of watchmaking mechanics by devoting very significant investments to research and innovation, as well as to the actual Breguet manufacturing site, which has been enlarged and expanded with new facilities and infrastructure as well as sophisticated machinery. Emphasis has also been placed on recruiting highly qualified watchmakers. A team is ceaselessly working on the design and production of new models that interpret the brand's esthetic values in a novel manner, and on completely original mechanisms that will drive the timepieces of tomorrow. At the heart of the brand's strategy lies the perfecting, through synergies with the Swatch Group, of innovative manufacturing procedures. This demonstrates its historical capacity for constantly reinventing and revolutionizing watchmaking, in order to satisfy the requirements of its extremely sophisticated clientele. It was with this objective in mind that a prestige jewelry line was launched in 2002, with resounding success. www.breguet.com

About The Frick Collection

Housed in the Gilded Age mansion of Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919) on New York's famed Fifth Avenue, the museum presents one of the most important collections of Western fine art and decorative arts in the world, featuring works by Bellini, El Greco, Rembrandt, Titian, Turner, Vermeer, Whistler, and many others artists. Throughout the galleries, which have a decidedly residential and "old New York" atmosphere, visitors also enjoy the examples of fine horology. Furthermore, through the special exhibition Precision & Splendor: Clocks and Watches at The Frick Collection , they may see a number of timepieces that are not ordinarily not on public display.
